Updated
Uploaded a wrong, outdated, or out-of-place photo? Don't worry. Shopify lets you easily manage your media library to keep your store clean and professional.
Where Are Images Stored and Deleted in Shopify?
All images and documents you upload (except product-specific photos) are stored in the Content > Files section. From here you can upload new assets for your theme or bulk delete those you no longer use to free up space and keep things organized.
What you can delete:
- Images of discontinued products.
- Banners from past promotions (Cyber, Black Friday).
- Files uploaded by mistake.

Step by Step: Deleting Files
1 Go to Content > Files
In your Shopify admin panel, look in the left sidebar for the Content section. Click on it, then select Files. Here you'll see all the images and documents in your store.
2 Search and Select
Use the search bar or filter by file type to find what you want to delete.
Check the box next to each image you want to remove. You can select multiple files at once.
3 Delete Permanently
Once selected, click the "Delete files" button that appears at the top right or bottom.
Warning! This action is irreversible. Make sure you're not deleting images currently in use on your website.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I delete a photo, does it get removed from the products?
Yes, the deletion is global. If you were using that image in a product, banner, or page, it will disappear and leave an empty space or a broken image icon.
How do I free up space if I have many photos?
You can use the "Used in" filter (if available in your version) or sort by date to delete the oldest ones you no longer use.
